Too much from gw2?
sorry if this is wrong place..
Are we expecting too much from Gw2?
every suggestion someone makes in Sardelac sanitarium gets this answer:
"Maybe in Gw2.."
the thing is: Do we dream of gw2 as the game that will fulfill all of our hopes for gw1? and if it isn't what we expect will we end up saying:
"Gw2 is the same as gw1.. only some minor changes.. boo"

Well, it would certainly be to much to expect any major changes to GW1. So that means expectations and hopes are displaced onto GW2 by default.

to answer your question.. I tjhink Community does.. people as in an individual doesnt.
An individual hopes for it but doesnt expect it.. Now the mass of thos eplayers discussing it 24/7 here give themselves amn illusion that thast the way its gonna be its just how the mind is set up.. if majority thinks so it must be true.

Oh, I'm sure some people are expecting GW2 to be the best game ever.
It will be radically different from original GW, however: no henchmen or heros, just a single optional companion; higher level cap (or none at all!); persistent areas; different armor and weapon system; possible new professions and/or different character mechanics.
So, I'm not expecting GW1 with "minor changes" at all. I'm anticipating whole new game... for better or for worse.

i think some people are expecting far too much from this game.
my worry is, that with this pressure from the GW community, ANet will cave and produce some lame WoW copy where the emphasis is on the grind, rather then the game, as opposed to sticking to their original GW concept, which, for me, is the best MMO around by miles.

It's hard not to, really with how ANet is handling things. When GW2 news was released, ANet could have merely decided to announce that GW2 was in progress. INSTEAD, they disclosed all sorts of features and mechanics that would be included. Of course this provides somewhat of a skeleton for our imaginations. ANet has decided not to curb any of the imaginative meat we place on the skeleton by releasing more information, so of course we are going to shoot for the sky.

I don't think thats the feeling at all. There are many features the community have asked for or bugs that are just too deep rooted to address effectively in the GW1 framework. People don't expect the resources to be dedicated to addressing the issues so people say "maybe in GW2" because that is at a stage where they may be able to address these issues without the huge manpower requirement to address it in GW1. I'm sure many features won't make it, but some will because there was the opportunity to address them from a fresh base and they add to the game.

If GW2 = GW1 with 100 slots for the ignore list then I will be happy. Actually make it 200 and I can add everyone who posts to this thread. I will even add myself!

Well Anet said it's going to be the best mmo ever, so the expectations are very high and they were high to begin with after a title like GW1.
Personally, I first want to see and play the game before I make big statements like Mr O'Brian.

yes, i expect much from gw2. but i wouldn't call it hype. the only reason i am looking forward to gw2 is the fact that gw1 was so much different from other mmorpgs (in a good way), hence gw2 might be a league of its own (hopefully, in a good way too).
i don't expect revolutionary gameplay/mechanics/stuff - everything possible was already realised in some sort of way by other game companies - but i am expecting a polished game, which is enjoyable for - at least - 4 years.
if anet decides to create a rival to wow, gw2 will flop.

I dont expect anything at all from GW2, especially nothing dreamed up on these forums. That way I'll be 100% happy when I finally play the game, which I will do no matter what. :-)

While my hopes are high for GW2, the more I hear about it the more my expectations fall.
Ideally I would actually just want something very similar to GW1 with regards to combat and PvP, except with proper balance and none of the current problems.
As for PvE, it doesn't bother me to much, as long as it has a somewhat engaging storyline and plenty to do, I'd be happy.
I really do hope they will stick with many of the concepts they have in GW1 but update it more, give it a new feel however I do get the feeling GW2 will contain none of the things we loved in GW1 and I really do think they will ruin PvP altogether, creating yet another WoW clone.

Yes, there are people out there are getting their expectations too high with regards to GW2. Pfft... Their expectations for GW1's monthly updates are way too high!

Are you living in a hole? People's expectations for the monthly skill updates seem to be at an all time low.

IMO people are expecting a bit too much, then again, what do we have to look at? A few articles and a logo. The most we'll see before its release is lore (which is good for me) in the form of the books.

No one has ever said that the only thing we will see before the release is Lore, when have you ever seen a game released in the entire history of games that has only released lore before the proper release of the game?
(There might actually be one or two, I dunno, I don't claim to know every game released, my point still stands though, that would be an incredibly stupid marketing decision, no one in their right mind would do this.)

I completely agree with that, not that pve was ever my cup of tea, I play it to make my characters look cool for pvp thats it
I also agree with the reaper because my biggest worry right now is that they will ruin pvp with a combination of changes, either having more skills, too many classes or races, and too high level cap
As long as pvp is balanced relatively well, they can make 1000 the level cap and make the campaign hundreds of hours long if they want, I just don't want them the ruin the competitive side of things
